Rachel stared up at the ceiling as Quinn took her hand. “Rach? Are you okay?” she asked softly.
The brunette nodded. “Thank you for coming with me today.”
Quinn ran her thumb in soothing circles on the top of Rachel’s hand and leaned over to rest her head against her girlfriend’s shoulder. “You’re welcome. I couldn’t let you come here alone.”
Rachel swallowed hard, turning to face Quinn with worry filling her brown eyes. “Do you think it’s serious?”
“What?” Quinn reached up to stroke Rachel’s cheek with her free hand. “I-I don’t know, Rach. The doctor will be in soon and hopefully he can tell us. But I’m right here. I’m not going anywhere.”
With a shaky exhale, Rachel kissed Quinn, both to thank her girlfriend for keeping her grounded and to take her mind off of being in the doctor’s office. As the exam room door opened, Rachel displayed her anxiety by squeezing Quinn’s hand like a life preserver. Quinn squeezed right back, hoping for the best and steeling herself for the worst.
